Thinking about May 2017 monthly favourites, makes me think- where on earth is this year going? I feel like I really struggle with England’s winters- Jan to March can be such a drag and then all of a sudden, it’s June! Also- it was a new year’s target to start a blog- I have just started…
There are lots of things I enjoyed in May- we had that brief summery week around the bank holiday and it felt like summer was here! We bought some garden furniture and enjoyed it for about 2 days… I’m going to do a post about the garden furniture once I have had a chance to use it properly and review it for you- it’s looking very sad in the rain at the moment!

Another one of my new year / now I’m 30 resolutions was to moisturise… I always try and do my face, although taking off my make up at night was another resolution of this kind (it’s going ok- generally managing 5 nights out of 7…) A couple of moisturising products I’ve been enjoying are the Garnier Body repair moisturiser* I like this because I can put it on my legs straight after I have shaved them and they don’t go funny, do you know what I mean? That stingy irritated feeling you sometimes get followed by a bit of a rash? I don’t get that with this which is fab. I also picked up this sea salt and mint foot cream (can’t find a link but I picked it up in Sainsburys), it’s nice and thick and makes my feet smell nice! I think I got both of these in the supermarket as well so that’s always handy!
I am currently in the market for a new hair mousse- I have very fine hair, so every time I dry it I have to put a bit of something in it otherwise it goes flat as a pancake on my head. I got this sample size BB Hairdresser Invisible Oil Heat/ UV protective Primer* in one of those free goodie bags that you get if you spend a lot of money on Feel Unique a couple of months ago and I’ve been really enjoying it. I usually use a Fudge heat protector but I have used that up and I like this one, jury’s out on whether I will re-purchase or try something different next time. I am also continually in love with my Tangle Teaser*. A must have for fine and tangly haired girls like myself!
I have managed to get my hands on another NARS Pressed Translucent Powder , these have been out of stock for ages and when my last one died I purchased a Bare Minerals duo which looked amazing- it had a highlighter as well, but it was very powdery and made me look a bit cakey. I love the NARS one. I wear glasses most of the time so I need a powder to stop my foundation rubbing off but I still like the dewy look, this does a good job of that.
Favourites that I have repurchased a couple of times that I wear everyday are also the Benefit Brow Ready Set Brow Gel and the Benefit Precisely, My Brow Pencil which I have in shade 3. I like these products, I am not in love with my eyebrows so any suggestions to make them better gratefully received! I dye my hair very blonde but naturally I am very dark, so my eyebrow natural hair is very dark, but I want to avoid having that white hair and black eyebrows look… hard work! Anyway, I like the pencil as it gives me more depth but not too caked on, I do use waxes and powders sometimes but I find the more product I put on the darker my brows look and then I am back to too much contrast with my hair… The brow gel is clear and is great- it keeps them on track for the day!
Also the Bourjois Volume 1 Seconde Mascara* which I have in black- this I keep re-purchasing but I am noticing it keeps marking my upper lids. I have purchased 2 new mascaras for June testing so I’ll let you know how I get on with them in a blog soon!
Finally, in beauty the MAC Fleur De Force Lipstick (sadly I think it’s sold out!) I really like this, I love FDF videos and when I saw it I thought I would give it a try, it looks lovely on her. I had to buy it online which was a shame as I didn’t get to swatch it and it has come out more brown toned than I expected, it looked more pinky on screen but none the less I really like it and I have worn it to a couple of weddings and it looks fab! I wear a lip liner under it. I think I might have a look at a counter and see what’s similar but just a bit pinkier to add to the collection…
With the brief sunny spell, we have been loving the BBQ! I also love it as it’s the only time my significant other dares to cook. I am in charge of prep. I have to be honest in that recently my burgers have been from the supermarket… I have marinated my own chicken though- recipe coming soon on the blog, but a really good cheat I have found- you know those sachet sauce mixes? I have used a couple of ‘slow cooker chicken curry’ mix packets and olive oil on chicken breasts and marinated it for the morning before BBQing- amazing and so easy!
Finally, other stuff…
TV- I have been mad bingeing on Mad Men on Netflix, if you haven’t seen it- its’s great. It’s about advertising men in the 1950s and 1960s, I love the culture, the clothes and I love to see the rise of women in the workplace. I heart Peggy!
Music- Gold by Kiiara I heard this song in a shop recently (thank the lord for Shazam) and I remembered how much I loved it- nice and chilled out for Spring / Summer!
