My name is Jude and I am a Netflix addict. I don’t actually sit down and watch much TV but I do like to have something on all the time. On demand stuff is so much better for this and I like something I can get through, a nice series! I am the person that invests in a program and when it is over I have a gaping hole that needs filling by another series…
I do love a good film, but this post is about my favourite series that I’ve watched on Netflix. I’m the person that is watching something while I’m cooking tea or putting my make up on in the morning. I think it might be an only child / company thing- I’ve always liked to have something on in the background.
So, without further ado, here are a few of my favourite series that I’ve watched all the way through on Netflix…
Legal Drama / Thriller
I’m not sure whether this is still on Netflix UK or not but I LOVED this. This was one of the first series I went through on Netflix and I can’t believe that I hadn’t heard of it before. It has a fantastic cast including Glenn Close, Rose Byrne, Tate Donovan, Ted Danson and Dylon Baker. It ran from 2007 to 2012 and there are 5 seasons to get stuck in to.
The story is based around Patty Hewes (Glenn Close) and her new recruit Ellen (Rose Byrne). Its Devil wears Prada of lawyers but it’s pretty dark. Each series is wrapped around a murder and each episode starts with a flash of the very end of the series which makes it very gripping. It’s really good if you like a psychological thriller. If you liked The Fall, you’ll love this.
An absolute must watch. This one I invested in a bit more as I watched it with my bf so I couldn’t binge, also only one came out a week so we had to wait… disappointing. Just one series so far which is all now on Netflix, praying for a season 2! Cast includes Kiefer Sutherland, Maggie Q, Natasha McElhone and Adan Canto. You’ll like this if you like the West Wing, House of Cards, Spooks or any drama really!
The story is based around Tom Kirkman (Kiefer Sutherland) who is a low-level cabinet member and the designated survivor. So, when Capitol building is bombed and everyone else dies, he is made president. He is an unlikely choice (or was he?!) and takes to the role so well, the series is about his time in power to get things sorted after the tragedy, but the real story is the mystery of who bombed the Capitol and it’s FBI investigation which is a real thriller. Loved this!
I think at one point this was on the BBC, but it passed me by! It aired between 2007 and 2015. This is reasonably new to Netflix UK and I binged the whole 7 seasons and it has left a whole. I miss Peggy. More great names in this including John Hamm (swoon), Elisabeth Moss (fave and now in Handmaids Tale on Ch 4), January Jones (love), Christina Hendricks (love), John Slattery and Vincent Kartheiser. I don’t know what to suggest this is like, because really it is quite unique.
This story is about Mad Men, Advertising Agents working on Madison Avenue in 1960s New York who called themselves ‘Mad Men’. The series just follows the lives of these men, their wives and the people they work with. There’s a lot of booze, sex, adultery and smoking, so much smoking! Apart from the fun of the show there is also a bit of a dark side, hidden pasts of the characters and norms of the era which are so different now. I really enjoy seeing the change in human rights and stereotyping over the years the series show and the rise of Peggy. Peggy is my hero.
If you haven’t heard of Gossip Girl, where have you been? This was airing when I was at uni and some of my friends were really in to it, but I never got sucked in and in a way, I am so pleased as I could binge the whole lot on Netflix. This aired from 2007 to 2012 and there are 6 seasons. This has an all-star cast including Blake Lively, Leighton Meester, Chance Crawford, Ed Westwick (swoon), and Kelly Rutherford.
The story is what it says it is – a whole 6 series based around gossiping and the goings on of wealthy, privileged Upper East Side school girls. Although you would be forgiven for thinking that they’re 25… The stories are centred around their lives and the lives of their families and it is all narrated by a secret gossiper (Gossip Girl) who spreads their secrets online. You do find out at the very end who Gossip Girls is- but I’ll let you watch it and find out!
Pretty Little Liars
If you loved Gossip Girl then you’ll love Pretty Little Liars and vice versa. Somehow PLL doesn’t seem as grown up, although in later series they are technically in their 20s… This has literally finished airing this week (June 2018) and started in 2010. There are 7 series to go at. Again, I didn’t watch it when it started airing but I did start this on Netflix a couple of years ago, so I have had to wait for the final two series. This has some fab faces in too including, Troian Bellisario (love), Ashley Benson, Lucy Hale, Holly Combs, Ian Harding and Shay Mitchell (love).
This story is set in a small suburb town called Rosewood and the series follows a group of girls after their BFF Allison goes missing presumed dead. A mysterious character called A then essentially bullies them about the secrets they have all kept in life and about what happens to Allison. I feel like it’s not easy to make this one sound good?! But it is! It’s full of secrets, murders and mysteries. You do find out who A is eventually although sometimes it gets a bit tedious not knowing. In the later series, there is a new protagonist AD… I have 2 episodes to watch until I have completed it, so I am yet to find out who AD is… #PLLEndGame
I would give all of these 5 out of 5!!
What are you watching at the moment? What Netflix shows would you recommend?
