Welcome to my post about my Work Capsule Wardrobe. I feel like this is rather a grand title, basically this post is about what I end up wearing to work every day. I wear very similar things all the time and it has become a uniform, or in better company – my work capsule wardrobe.
Firstly, I better explain about my day job. My day job is as a Rural Chartered Surveyor. So, my work wardrobe is smart, but I work in rural practice which often means getting outside or on farm so I don’t wear purely corporate clothing. I have got a few staple pieces that I have bought in so many different colours that I now feel I have my work outfits down.
I am not massively adventurous with colours when it comes to work. I wear a lot of black, white, navy and mustard. The only area I spruce up my colour is with shirts, but for the most part – everything goes with everything so I don’t have to worry too much.
So let’s hop in to the clothes!
Pics are taken from the company’s websites. Links marked with an asterix are affiliate links. They indicate that the author receives a small share of sales through the related link at no cost to you.
I saw a photo of Kate Middleton wearing these GAP trousers on a website a few years ago and realised that they would be perfect for work. They are the GAP Bi-stretch skinny ankle pants, I buy the regular but you can also buy them in high waisted.
I literally have about 6 pairs in different colours and patterns, although I have about 3 black pairs. They wash and wear well and every now and then I dye them back to black. I do like GAP clothes, I think their good quality and they always have a discount code so that you can get a good deal! I do have other trousers, but these are the ones I live in.
Jumpers & Cardigans
Similarly to the trousers, I literally have the same style jumpers in so many colours! The jumpers I wear all the time are the Zara Sweater with Side Splits. These are so cheap!
Nice and thin so they look smart but they are still another layer. The hem finishes higher at the front than the back so they are super flattering- especially if you wear tight trousers (see above) like I do… Zara also change the colours of this product each season so you can pick up quite a few of these in different colours as you go through the year. The fit is slightly loose so it sits well over a shirt or looks fine with just a thin top or vest on underneath. I wear these jumpers in my ‘home’ wardrobe as well as they are such a nice fit!
I don’t really wear cardigans but I have a couple that are useful. One is a basic long black cardigan from ASOS that I tend to wear in the winter and the other one I get a lot of use out of is a thin knit ZARA one, basically the cardi version of the jumper above. They don’t stock them at the moment but while I was on their website I did see these pearl cardigans which would fit in to my work capsule wardrobe quite well… watch this space for a haul…
I wear a lot of shirts. As the trousers I wear are more on the casual side I wear a lot of shirts to smarten up the look. I have a lot of shirts that I’ve collected over the years but the shops I return to for shirts tend to be GAP and Hawes & Curtis. H & C are really good quality, really smart and really reasonably priced smart shirts. The men’s shirts and ties are lovely too.
This is the part of my wardrobe I inject a bit of colour in to and I have some really fun shirts ~ a bit like this one pictured. Although wearing a shirt every day does up the ironing, see how I iron my shirts here…
Dresses & Skirts
I don’t really wear skirts to work, I used to but I’ve cut my wardrobe down by cutting them out of my wardrobe. Also, I’m quite short (5ft 2”) so I think dresses tend to look better on me than skirts. They are also easier- literally just one item of clothing and then maybe a cardi or jacket if I have a really smart meeting.
I don’t have a huge amount of dresses but the ones I wear all the time are from Monki via ASOS*. They don’t have the ones I have on there anymore but this one* is a very similar style. This brand isn’t typical work wear but the cut and loose shape I like for work as it isn’t too figure hugging or restricting so I find them very flattering. They also really smarten up with heels!
And that’s it for my Work Capsule Wardrobe clothes, I haven’t included shoes and accessories, so I’ll do another post on those soon!
